Dr Glen Blier

Owner, Veterinarian

Dr Glen Blier graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1999. Dr. Blier grew up just outside of Wilmot Center and started practicing medicine in his home town New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic in May 1999. He offers both Companion Animal Medical/Dental appointments as well as Food Animal Herd Health/Medical services.

In 2017 Dr. Blier became sole owner of the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic, after Dr. Mike Ritter retired.

When the practice is not keeping him busy, you may see Glen and his wife relaxing at their cottage with their lively retriever named Charlotte.

Dr. Allison Schroeder

Veterinarian

Allison became a Veterinarian at the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic after graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. She grew up on a farm just outside of New Dundee and returned to practice veterinary medicine in New Hamburg in the Spring of 2017.

Outside of work, Allison enjoys running, hiking, and spending time with her family, friends, and her dog Coda.

Dr. Anne Marie Hunter

Veterinarian

Anne Marie was raised on a local dairy farm outside of New Dundee and came back to the area to practice Veterinary Medicine after graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2008. Her passion for animals and their wellness gives her an enthusiasm for promoting and working with families to provide routine preventive care for pets.

Orange cats, Jack Russells, gardening and baking get her heart beating a little faster. Her home is kept entertained by Ernie (American Hunt Terrier), Angus (Jack Russell Terrier) and cats Mortimer, Duke, and Lazuli.

Dr. Cindy Findlater

Veterinarian

Cindy graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1990. After a year in beef practice she joined the New Hamburg Vet Clinic (in 1991). She enjoys the variety and challenge of mixed animal practice. Optimizing the health of our aging patients is a particular passion of hers.

Cindy is married to Brad, a local dairy farmer. They have two active boys. Cindy enjoys running, biking, knitting, gardening. Her pet family includes Oreo, a Border collie X, the cat crew Bob, Dave and Mavis and an assortment of pygmy goats, sheep, an alpaca, a pony (Honey) and a miniature donkey (Spotty).

Dr. Emma Puckering

Veterinarian

Emma started at the New Hamburg Vet Clinic in May 2022 as a mixed animal veterinarian. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, where she also completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Biology. Dr. Emma recently moved to New Hamburg with her husband and her 2 dogs, Lady and Ireland and her cat Chewy. Outside of work Emma enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and hiking.

Dr. Kyla Von Hausen

Veterinarian

Having grown up in New Hamburg, Kyla is excited to be apart of the NHVC team as a mixed animal veterinarian. She completed her studies in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program with distinction at the Ontario Veterinary College in the spring of 2021. Prior to vet school, she studied Animal Biology for 3 years at the University of Guelph.
When she’s not at the clinic, she can be found snuggling her 2 cats (Khali & Marvin), snowboarding, camping and most recently, doing home renovation projects.

Dr. Vanessa Read

Veterinarian

Vanessa grew up in Owen Sound, where she enjoyed playing hockey and horseback riding. Dr. Read completed her Undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. After graduating in 2020, she continued to University College in Dublin where she spent 4 years in vet school. Since graduating, she has moved to Kitchener-Waterloo but looks forward to getting to know the New Hamburg area and everyone in it!

Our Administrators

Amanda Dow

Office Manager

Amanda has been employed at the New Hamburg Vet Clinic since June 1995. She began her career here in reception and has since moved up to become our Office Manager. In Amanda’s years, she has performed just about every task possible with the exception of Veterinary Medicine. Amanda is married with 2 children and 4 grandchildren. When Amanda is not at work you can find her walking, working out at her home gym, or just sitting with a cup tea and a good book.

Deb Heipel

Administrator

Deb’s love of animals is what brought her to the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic where she has been employed since the spring of 2007. Deb works in inventory doing all the ordering, assisting the Vet Techs when needed, and caring for the cleanliness of the clinic and the welfare of the animals visiting us.

When Deb is not at work she shares her home with her partner James, her son Nick as well as her Guinea Pigs Olive and Hazel, and Bearded Dragon Phoenix.

Alysha Amy

Registered Veterinary Technician

Alysha is one of our RVTs and has been a part of the NHVC team since 2009. She attended Ridgetown College to get her qualifications in nursing care, radiology, laboratory and anesthesia. Her favourite things about being a RVT have changed over the years. When she first started, Alysha was highly interested in anesthesia and helping in surgery. Now, client and student education and communication has become a passion, along with building skills in the laboratory. Outside of work, you can find her spending quality time with her husband and two daughters, as well as playing volleyball and snowmobiling. Alysha loves being a part of the New Hamburg Vet Clinic family and feels extremely lucky to be able to build that “family feel” everyday with her colleagues and clients.

Chennal Wiedemann

Registered Veterinary Technician

Chennal Wideman’s passion for the great outdoors has taken her on an exciting journey from the classroom to the field. Chennal joined the New Hamburg Vet Clinic in November 2023. After graduating from Flemming College’s Fish and Wildlife Technician program in 2020, she went on to earn her Veterinary Technician degree from Sheridan College in 2023, equipping her with the skills to care for all creatures great and small. Whether she’s hiking through lush forests, birdwatching. Chennal’s boundless energy and love of nature shine through. When she’s not out exploring, you can find her cuddled up at home with her feline companion, Dougie.

Courtney Vollmershausen

Registered Veterinary Technician

Courtney’s love of animals of all different shapes and sizes started at a very young age. It was no surprise that this passion lead her to complete the Registered Veterinary Technician program at Algonquin College in Ottawa in 2010. Since graduating she has gained experience with dogs, cats, pocket pets, various wildlife, farm animals, and exotics such birds and reptiles.

Courtney enjoys a quite life with her husband Tyler on their farm. They have a golden retriever named Ben, 2 German Shepherds Brinley and Daisy, and 2 cats named Willow and Cleo.

Jenna Barten

Registered Veterinary Technician

*Our newest member* Jenna joined the NHVC team in June 2024. She always had a love of animal growing up and could not imagine having another career! She graduated from the St. Clair College’s Veterinary Technician program in 2023 and became an RVT shortly after. Jenna particularly enjoys the large animal aspects of the job, as well as helping in surgery for the companion animals. Outside of work, Jenna enjoys camping, biking, and spending time with her family, friends and her rabbit named Stanley.

Laura Nelson

Registered Veterinary Technician

Laura joined the NHVC family in March 2022. Her love for all animals (big or small, fluffy or naked, 4 legs or more!), started at a young age. Naturally, she had to make a career out of it! She graduated from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in 2019 and has been a Registered Veterinary Technician ever since. When she isn’t at the clinic, she’s tending to her zoo (cats, dogs, bunnies, bearded dragons, and shrimp) at home and spending time with her family!

Merry Beth Denney

Registered Veterinary Technician

Merry Beth graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College in 1996, and has worked as an RVT in Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba and New Brunswick.  During her RVT career she has experienced a variety of veterinary settings, including small animal, mixed small & large animal, and equine-only practices.  She also enjoyed teaching as part of a Veterinary Assistant Program’s team, and being a member of a Veterinary Technician Program Accreditation Committee.  While living in New Brunswick, Merry Beth was on the EVTA Executive Committee for a number of years as the Newsletter Editor, and ran a boarding kennel at her country property south of Moncton.  Throughout the years she has also volunteered at several different provincial Conferences and enjoys representing RVT’s at various tradeshows and events throughout Ontario.

When she is not working, Merry Beth enjoys spending time with her horses, doing yoga, walking in the woods, paddle boarding, gardening, cooking for her family, and reading.  During every one of those activities (except paddle boarding), her dog Bailey is usually right beside her 🙂

Merry Beth and her husband have 4 children and live in the country on a farm near New Hamburg with Star (horse), Bailey and Pepper (dogs), Cindy, Billy, Princess and Joey (barn cats) and JJ (housecat) and 26 chickens.

Rachel Gobbels

Registered Veterinary Technician

Rachel joined the NHVC team after her externship in September 2020. She has graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at the University of Guelph – Ridgetown college campus and since then has become a Registered Technician as well as an Registered Equine Technician. Rachel enjoys anesthesia, helping in surgery, and labwork.

In her spare time you can find her spending time with her horse Daisy, working some more, and spending time with friends.

Sarah Oostenbrug

Registered Veterinary Technician

Sarah graduated from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown College Campus in 2017 and has been here at the New Hamburg Vet Clinic ever since. She loves everything about being a vet tech especially cuddling with all your fur babies Her favourite things about being a RVT are assisting in surgeries, performing lab work and working with a variety of animals. She has a handsome cat named Wallen that loves lots of cuddles, and a beautiful dog, Adaline (Corgi) at home. In her spare time, Sarah likes to spend quality time with her family and friends and enjoys travelling.

Deanna Ehgoetz

Receptionist

Deanna is a part-time member of the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic reception team. She started working at the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic in January 2019. She enjoys travelling, spending time with her family and going for walks with her dog, Toby. She lives in New Hamburg with her husband and their two boys.

Emily Haggith

Receptionist

Emily started working at the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic in June 2021! She graduated from the VOA (Veterinary Office Administration) program at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in 2021, and is excited to put her skills to work in the veterinary field. In her spare time, you can catch Emily at the beach spending lots of time with her dog Oakley, and her cats Nova, Bacardi, and Mr. B.

Kristina Blier

Receptionist

Kristina joined our team in 2007 and performs administrative tasks for the practice. When she is not at the clinic she loves spending time snuggling her two cats Bodhi and Willow, and the family’s lively golden retriever Charlotte. Kristina also enjoys time spent at the cottage, hiking, and with her husband Glen, and two sons.

Lauren Spivak

Receptionist

Lauren’s passion for all things creative led her on an exciting journey. After graduating from Waterloo Oxford Secondary School in 2021, she pursued her love of animals, joining the team at the New Hamburg Vet Clinic in May 2023. Outside of work, you can find Lauren immersed in the world of video games, experimenting with the latest makeup trends, or sipping on the perfect cup of coffee as she explores the latest fashion styles.

Taryn McIntyre

Receptionist

Taryn’s love for animals flourished after completed her co-op at the New Hamburg Vet Clinic in 2019. After graduating from Waterloo Oxford in 2020, she joined the team at the New Hamburg Vet Clinic, where she puts her compassion and attention to detail to work as a receptionist. When she’s not greeting patients and their owners with a warm smile, you can find Taryn out walking her beloved pups, Galen and Olive, or enjoying quality time with her family and friends.
